Find With San Bernardino People Search

People leave San Bernardino all the time, for the coast, the desert, or another state entirely. Finding one of them starts with a name. A San Bernardino people search pulls up the relatives, current phone numbers, and email addresses attached to it. Being the county seat keeps a lot of that data close, and the nationwide layer picks up wherever a person landed next.

San Bernardino Records Office Map

San Bernardino people records do not sit in one database. The Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk keeps parcel assessment data, recorded instruments, county vital certificates, marriage licenses, and fictitious business names. The Superior Court keeps its own case files. City records, including council material, municipal permits, and city department files, remain with the City Clerk and the department that made them. The fuller rules for copies and agency requests belong with San Bernardino public records access.

Start with the office that created the record. San Bernardino County warns that it has no central recordkeeping system. Sending a permit question to the Recorder or a divorce request to the County Clerk adds delay because each must be rerouted to the actual custodian.

San Bernardino Recorder Search Fields

The county's official-records page states that its document search covers 1925 to the present. Results identify a document number, date, title, grantor, and grantee. A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives it. The county's property-research instructions describe a narrower deed-chain route from 1958 forward and send pre-1958 work to microfilm at the main Recorder office. Those statements describe different ways to use the same body of records. The San Bernardino County Official Records page explains both the index and its limits.

San Bernardino Property Search Trail

For an address-based San Bernardino search, the Assessor comes before the Recorder. GovPIMS accepts a parcel number, situs address, street fields, and owner-name fields. Its results may contain Property Info, Roll Values History, Parcel History, Owner History, and Document Numbers. The owner history can reveal past names, while document numbers create a bridge into recorded deeds.

The govPIMS Public Assessor Map shows the parcel, address, and name utilities used in that workflow.

The property result is a research lead. County assessment data does not determine legal ownership, and a mailing address can differ from the situs address, which is the physical location of the parcel.

Situs address
The physical address assigned to the parcel.
Mailing address
The place where the taxpayer receives notices.
Legal description
The tract, lot, block, or survey language that identifies the land.
Chain of title
The sequence of recorded transfers from one owner to the next.

Note: Match an Assessor result to a recorded document before treating the listed name as proof of legal ownership.

San Bernardino Court Name Lookup

The Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino uses the Court Access Portal, or CAP. A public case-number route can reach an available case directly. Party and business name searches require a login and search credits. The public name form uses first, optional middle, and last name plus a filing-date range, and the official instructions say results may be capped at 200.

The San Bernardino CAP search screen displays the entry point for court case information.

A CAP match may show case number, party, filing date, case type, status, and available public documents. Civil documents that may lawfully be shown remotely cost $0.50 per page. Pre-1998 case data can be limited, so older matters may require contact with the court district that holds the file. Sealed, juvenile, paternity, and minor-related matters are not ordinary online records, and California court rules keep sensitive identifiers out of public electronic indexes.

San Bernardino Vital Records Routes

The San Bernardino County Recorder-Clerk issues county birth and death certificates and certificates for marriage licenses bought in the county. Divorce decrees are court records, not Recorder-Clerk records. A recent death record may remain with the County Department of Public Health for 30 to 60 days before it reaches the Recorder-Clerk, while events outside the county may require the event county or California Department of Public Health.

California Health and Safety Code ยง 103526 limits authorized certified copies. Other requesters may receive informational copies of birth, death, and nonconfidential marriage records, marked as invalid for establishing identity. Confidential marriage copies are available only to the parties or by court order. County applications may be made online, by mail, or in person; authorized mail requests need a sworn, notarized statement.

Historical research follows a different path. County Archives holds birth and death registers from 1873 to 1910, marriage records beginning with county formation in 1853, and probate proceedings from 1853 to 1926. Earlier local marriage or land clues can lead to Los Angeles County because San Bernardino County did not exist until 1853.

Note: Ask the event county or CDPH when a San Bernardino vital event search falls outside county-held coverage.

San Bernardino City Records Search

The City Clerk keeps official books, minutes, papers, and indexed city records. City NextRequest accepts new public-record requests and lets readers search prior requests and responsive files. The city's eDocs repository adds council agendas and minutes, City Clerk material, building and planning permits, public works plans, centerline records, and other municipal files.

The San Bernardino City NextRequest portal is the online request and prior-response search.

The image shows the city route, which is separate from the county request system. For permits, city Building and Safety links records from 1996 to the present and a historical collection for records older than 1995. Search fields include address, permit number, license number, and parcel number.

Note: If a record is not online, send a focused request to the city department or City Clerk that created and retains it.

San Bernardino Family Records Trail

Family and heir research is strongest when several San Bernardino sources are joined. Probate files can name a decedent, personal representative, heirs, creditors, and property tied to an estate. A decedent is the person who died. Recorder entries can then show how land passed, while obituaries and cemetery registers may name spouses, children, siblings, and places connected to the family.

The County Historical Archives offers an online collection search and staff help for older material. The Arda Haenszel California Room holds San Bernardino obituaries, newspaper microfilm, family histories, early diaries, the Mary Lewis collection of settlers from 1853 to 1909, and Pioneer and Agua Mansa cemetery burial records. These sources are especially useful when a name changed, a family moved, or an online vital index gives too little context.

Follow the record trail by date. Begin with the death or probate event, compare names in an obituary, then check property transfers and earlier directories. This keeps separate people with the same name from being merged into one family.

San Bernardino Historical Directory Search

The California Room provides a rare span of address and name sources. City directories cover 1887 through 1968, telephone books begin in 1918, and criss-cross directories run from 1976 to the present. A city directory starts with a name and can return an address or occupation. A criss-cross book reverses that path, starting with an address to identify the listed occupant. Current public directories fill a different need. The City of San Bernardino staff directory searches by category, first name, and last name.

Entries can show name, title, department, email link, phone, and an added phone where published. The screenshot helps distinguish a current official contact search from the library's historic resident directories.

The San Bernardino City Unified directory adds keyword, first-name, and last-name searches for district staff.

District results may show a staff member's name, title, department, and email label. For classmates rather than current staff, San Bernardino High School annuals at the California Room are the more suitable record set.

San Bernardino Business Record Lookups

Official California business and license systems can separate people or confirm a stated business link. The Secretary of State bizfile search covers corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships by entity name or number. County fictitious business name records cover local assumed names. UCC records can be searched by debtor, secured party, or file number.

Professional records are split by board. The Department of Consumer Affairs accepts a person's name, license number, business name, registry number, board, and license type. The Contractors State License Board adds contractor business and personnel fields. The Secretary of State publishes an active notary list updated each business day.

  • Compare the legal entity name with the person's full name.
  • Read filing dates and status before treating an entry as current.
  • Use the county FBN search for names absent from state entity records.
  • Check the issuing board for license status and public discipline.

Note: A business filing documents the information submitted to that agency; it does not prove every private claim made by a seller.

San Bernardino Custody Record Search

The San Bernardino County Sheriff provides a current Inmate Locator. Its direct search accepts a ten-digit booking number or a combination of last name, first name, date of birth, age range, and gender. It also supports projected-release searches by date. California's CIRIS search covers people currently in state prison and may return a CDCR number, age, location, commitment counties, admission date, and parole-hearing information.

These searches cover different custody systems. A missing result in the county locator does not establish that a person has no state record, and a state result does not describe a county jail stay. Sheriff reports also use separate eligibility and request rules. The county notes that reports taken from April 23, 2019 through April 7, 2023 cannot be processed because of a network service interruption.

California's Megan's Law registry is a separate public-safety system that shows only disclosures authorized by law. Use custody and registry data only for lawful personal safety or civic purposes, never to stalk, harass, threaten, or harm anyone.

San Bernardino Voter Record Limits

California My Voter Status and San Bernardino County election tools let a voter check their own status, district, ballot or polling information, and related election details. Broader voter files are not open people-finder databases. California law limits released files to approved election, scholarly, journalistic, political, governmental, or qualifying record-review purposes.

Released records may contain names, residence and mailing addresses, party preference, precinct, registration date, status, and participation history. They never reveal ballot choices. Driver license or state ID numbers, Social Security number digits, signatures, confidential voters, and preregistration records for minors are excluded.

The county requires a wet-signed voter-file application, a clear copy of current state identification, and submission in person or by mail. Email and fax are not accepted. For the complete access rules, use the San Bernardino voter records reference.

San Bernardino Privacy Search Controls

Official records and commercial people-finder compilations are not the same. An official index names its custodian, source, and access limit. A commercial compilation may blend records with brokered or marketing data, hide the source, or retain stale entries. Confirm a material fact with the Recorder, court, Assessor, or other office that made the record.

Source typeStrengthMain caution
Official agency recordIdentified custodian and record contextCan still be old, limited, or misread
Commercial compilationMay gather many leadsSource, date, and identity match may be unclear
Archive or directoryStrong historical time-and-place evidenceCoverage may be incomplete by year

California residents can use DROP, launched January 1, 2026, to send one deletion request to active registered data brokers. That request does not erase government records. CCPA personal information also excludes publicly available government data such as professional licenses and property records.

Use personal information only for a lawful purpose. Never use a San Bernardino record search to stalk, harass, threaten, or harm a person.

San Bernardino Jurisdiction Shapes Records

A San Bernardino mailing address does not always identify the record keeper. Property within city limits uses city Building and Safety for municipal permits and the San Bernardino Police Department for city police reports. Property in an unincorporated county area uses County Land Use Services for permits and may fall under the Sheriff's jurisdiction. Contract cities can also rely on the Sheriff.

The same geographic split affects old records. If a structure stood outside the city when work occurred, a city permit search may fail even when a county file exists. Neither the County Recorder nor County Historical Archives keeps building permits. County online permit research covers Building and Safety applications after June 30, 2017, while older research may require an application.

Check the parcel, city boundary, and event date before choosing an office. That small step prevents a common San Bernardino dead end and explains why two nearby addresses can lead to different custodians.

San Bernardino Records Scam Check

San Bernardino County warned residents in April 2025 about deceptive letters that cited real public-record information while pressing for lien payments. A real document number or parcel fact does not make a payment demand official. Verify the underlying record with the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk or Tax Collector and treat urgent demands with care.

Unclaimed property offers another check. California's official claim process is free and has no deadline after property reaches the State Controller. A search result can help reconnect a person or estate with money tied to an old name or address, but a third party does not need to collect a fee to start the state claim.

Keep the message, envelope, caller details, and payment instructions when fraud is suspected. Compare every claim against the agency's published contact details before sharing personal data or funds.
